Los Furias Tiki loves Napkin Art.

Fact!

I also enjoy a good art show.

Fact Again!

With that in mind, here is the lowdown on the Los Furias Tiki Napkin Art Contest, currently running on my Facebook fan page which you can find here:

www.facebook.com/pages/Los-Fur…

The Competition:

Draw a design on a napkin based around your favourite cocktail... Text is allowed and any medium is acceptable. This isn't about who can produce the best imitation of Mid Century Napkin Art, it's about having a good old booze inspired doodle on a napkin and winning some free Tiki swag! It's as simple as that.

The Rules:

The design submitted must be your own original idea and drawn onto an actual napkin. There are no rules regarding colour or size of the napkin.

When you're happy with your design, send a clear photograph or scan to:

sam@losfuriastiki.com

Remember to send your name/artist name and any info you would like me to include about your entry or work in general. This is the info that will accompany your entry, so keep it clean.

Feel free to include links to your artist page/fan page or any related sites that will further showcase your work... I will include them in the information you submit.

The Prize:

All submitted entries will be posted on the Los Furias Tiki page on Facebook in a special Napkin Art Album on February 15th 2011 and the image that gets the most 'Likes' and comments by March 1st 2011 will be declared the winner.

You may vote for your own entry if you want... But, really?

The winner will be announced on the day and receive a complete set of 'Doug's First Day In 3D' mugs (The Many Moods Of Doug four colour glaze, Blue Christmas glaze, Soylent Green glaze and Redrum glaze). Only 30 of each glaze will be produced, so this is a genuinely limited prize.

Any suspicious voting will be looked into and, if deemed unfair, discounted from the competition.

Good luck to all you napkin doodlers out there and I look forward to seeing who wins!

Well, another year has shot past and I'm staring down the barrel of the loaded gun that is 36!

I'm not complaining though, 35 has been a pretty good year for artistic projects... It started off with a great show in Berlin, followed by another great show in the UK and finished up with the second year of Puttiki. I've met some fantastic new art friends, shown my work alongside some incredible talent and get some really exciting new projects off the ground (Los Furias Tiki bar ware anyone?).

All in all, I've been impressed by how supportive, interesting and driven the art scene is as at a 'low brow' level... I've already got two more events lined up for this year alone and it's in no small part down to the encouragement and enthusiasm of my dA friends who kept me at it when work and the general crap of life got me down.

So, as always, thanks to you all and here's to another great year of art for everyone!

Fan-Tastic!

Obviously, LFT's down with the kids, hep to the step, keen to the scene and all that... So I've gone and made myself one of those Facebook fan pages I've been hearing the young folk talk about so much about!

Obviously, dA will always be my first stop when posting new work but it never hurts to publicly show your love for a fellow struggling artist... So... If you're a Facebook user who likes a bit of Tiki goodness then head on over, 'fan me up' and make me look more popular than I actually am!

It's a win, win situation for all involved.

Hooray!

Hey Howdy Hey!

March 27th sees the opening of the Tiki Today show over here in the UK and from what I've seen, it's going to be an absolutely AMAZING gig!

It's not just new art work by a veritable who's who of the current Tiki revival but a full scale retrospective of the bar culture and Back Yard Polynesia phenominon that inspired them. Expect vintage bar ware, Tiki mugs new and old, clothing, souvenirs and just about anything that has served to keep the mighty Tiki at the forefront of the Lowbrow Scene.

I can't wait to see the show and am even more thrilled to be taking part... Quite an honour! Two new pieces for the exhibition plus four that have already been seen... That's a lot of wall space for a Furias Tiki!

Again, if you give a flying French, here's a gallery of the general making of and displaying of the work...

Hopefully, I'll see you there for the opening!

Here, for those who may be interested, is a 'making of' gallery for my pieces for the Strychnin Gallery  Tiki show this Christmas... The pieces and the gallery are not finished just yet so it will be worth checking back but I like seeing work in progress and figured that it's always good to see how other people get stuff done so... Here's the gallery link:

Hope you enjoy!
